The Black Writers Weekend Honors Literary Excellence and Cultural Impact in the Southeast

A Phenomenal Turnout Showcases the Strength of BlackStorytelling

(Atlanta, GA — August 8, 2024) — The curtain has closed on an unforgettable Black Writers Weekend (BWW) and the AAMBC Literary Awards, which wrapped up on Sunday, August 4, 2024, in Atlanta, Georgia. Hosted by AAMBC Inc. And founded by Tamika Jamison (formerly Newhouse), CEO of AAMBC Inc., this year’s festivities were nothing short of spectacular. The events celebrated the vibrant tapestry of black literary talent and other POC creatives who are reshaping the literary world.

BWW was more than a gathering; it was a dynamic celebration of black storytelling in its many forms. Over three days, attendees immersed themselves in a range of activities designed to entertain, educate, and inspire.

The weekend started off with Creative Day, which consisted of the ScreenwritersPitch Fest, the thought-provoking Access Hollywood: Black Writers ShapingCinema Panel, and The Pen Game Mixer. These events provided a vibrant platform for connecting with industry professionals and diving deep into the realms of creative writing and filmmaking.

The second day (Aug. 2nd) was a treasure trunk of workshops and clinics for aspiring authors. Attendees had the chance to learn from a dynamic lineup of guest speakers including Avery Kelley, Milan Armorer, Lena Jenkins-Smith, Christopher Bruce, Lem Collins, Ashante P. Stokes, Chris Young, and Tamika Jamison. These literary and entertainment veterans shared their knowledge on storytelling techniques, scriptwriting, editing, and publishing, offering invaluable insights for the next generation of creators.

On Readers Day, attendees had the unique chance to connect with their favorite authors through book signings, meet-and-greets, and intimate discussions. Featuring guest speakers like Tressa Azarel Smallwood, Ardre Orie, ShaquitaSmith, Tailah Breon, Ty Johnston-Chavis, Oreathia Smith, Briana Cole, and NeilCarr, the day created deep, memorable interactions between authors and their readers.

The grand finale of Black Writers Weekend featured the amazing V.I.P Reception and the AAMBC Literary Awards Ceremony. The AAMBC Literary Awards recognized exceptional talent with accolades such as:
